Covid Protocols

  • Swimmers/Volunteers with any Covid-19 symptoms as outlined by the Alberta Health Daily Checklist, they may not take part in practice
  • Masks will be required at all times, except when training.  Coaches will also be required to wear masks at all times.
  • All participants / guardians will be required to sign an Acknowledgment and Assumption of Risk form required by Swim Alberta upon registration.
  • Failure to adhere to the guidelines outlined in this document may result in the refusal of the individual to participate in practice. 

Prior to Arrival to the Pool Requirements:

  • All participants must complete an online Health Screening Checklist prior to each practice.
  • Contact Tracing Will be done Upon Arrival.
  • If any covid-19 symptoms develop prior to practice or during practice, the head coach must be immediately informed.
  • If a participant has answered yes to any of the questions on the checklist, they may not participate in practice.
  • car pooling is not advised

Arrival to Facility

  • Swimmer MUST COME prepared to Swim. Change rooms will NOT be permitted upon arrival. Personal items will be placed in designated areas on deck of the Pool. Before entrance to the pool showers are required on Deck.
  • please do not arrive More than 15 minutes before your start time
  • Cohorts are NOT permitted
  • Athletes MUST maintain 3 meters or 9 feet apart at all times
  • Swimmers Must wear masks upon arrival and in the facility
  • parents and guardians are not permitted to stay and watch
  • the coach or designate will check that the daily health screening was completed before arrival and complete contact tracing
  • Athletes will be assigned equipment and are to only use that equipment for the duration of the season.
  • Athletes must bring their own filled water bottle, there is no opportunity for refill.
  • Bathrooms are open for use throughout practice , or single swimmer one at a time.
  • Lanes will be limited to ensure 9 feet of distance is maintained..  There will be an empty lane in-between each group to ensure physical distancing requirements.
  • Training will be limited to up to  90-minute sessions.
  • Coaches and athletes will be in an environment that is both ‘open and observable’
  • Dryland training is permitted while maintaining the 9 feet distancing.

Leaving the FAcility

  • Training will end at the scheduled time.
  • Athletes will lay out all equipment on deck for sanitization.
  • At the end of the training, athletes will be directed to pick up their personal belongings and go to the changeroom.
  • Athletes will have 10 minutes of changeroom time.  They must not linger as the changeroom needs to be sanitized in-between each use
  • Athletes will sanitize their hands upon leaving the changeroom.
  • Athletes will maintain physical distancing upon leaving the faciality and wear masks.
  • Parents are asked not to enter the facility and wait to collect their athletes by or in their car.

Informed Notice

  • Parents will be informed via email within 60 minutes of a cancelled practice.
  • If  a participant tests positive for Covid-19, information will be provides as per Alberta Health Services and Swim Alberta guidelines.  
  • Any changes to these Covid-19 policies will reflect guideline changes set out by Alberta Health Services, Swim Alberta, and the Town of Ponoka.  These changes will be maid available on our website and emailed to parents / guardians. 

Health Screening Checklist

  • If the athlete is sick, they must stay home until they are symptom free.
  • Individuals are legally required to self isolate for 14 days or receive a negative Covid-19 test result if they have any of the following five symptoms: 


Cough (new or worsening chronic cough)

Shortness of Breath

Runny nose

Sore throat

Positive Covid-19 Test

  • Parents / guardians must inform the  Covid response coordinator Holly Shephard  immediately upon receiving a positive result from a Covid-19 test
